Ecobrain, along with Siemens, Merck Group, and other renowned companies, is one of the founding members of Estainium, a network initiated by Siemens aiming to enable manufacturers, suppliers, customers and partners to exchange trustworthy Product Carbon Footprint (“PCF”) data. The Issue: Achieving Carbon Neutral Supply Chains Pursuant to the World Economic Forum, “the manufacturing and production sectors are key drivers for economic growth, comprising 16% of global GDP, [but] activity from these sectors also poses serious environmental risks that must be collaboratively addressed.” However, “obtaining a complete and accurate [Product Carbon Footprint] can be very challenging, due to the complexity of global supply chains and the lack of transparency in data. Companies need to share data with their customers and get data from their suppliers, which presents its own technical and trust barriers.” The Solution: Collaboration and Transparency in Data Exchanges With the aim of addressing the lack of transparency in the exchange of relevant data, Siemens initiated Estainium, a network that “thrives to decarbonize industries by providing access to digital technologies that demonstrate scientifically sound ways of identifying, reporting, documenting and compensating for climate-negative impacts.” As Cedrik Neike, member of the Managing Board of Siemens, recently stated at the 2022 Hannover Messe: “as an industry, we will only become climate-neutral if we know where the emissions come from. With Estainium, we bring transparency to supply chains, we work in an open ecosystem, and we harness the power of data. . . .” For further information, see following video: Estanium: To Net Zero with Verifiable Credentials - Andreas Kind, Siemens
